Speech Restored Through Chiropractic
This article describes the case of a 46-year-old man suffering from "spasmodic dysphonia" -a spastic constriction of the vocal chords that interferes with speech. The man first experienced hoarseness, which gradually worsened until he finally couldn't speak at all. Eventually, even the simple effort to speak constricted his vocal chords to the point that he couldn't breathe.
Several physicians at two university hospitals studied the man. They diagnosed him as "hysterical," and prescribed psychiatric therapy. Frustrated with this medical diagnosis, the man sought out a chiropractor.
The chiropractor diagnosed an out-of-adjustment vertebra in the upper area of the spine, which he adjusted five times over the next two weeks. The patient began speaking after the second adjustment and foundhimself entirely healed by the fifth adjustment. He experienced hoarseness five months later, but additional adjustments corrected the problerrr:andhe has remained healed since. - K. W.
